Grid-optimisation SaaS for network operators.

What we do

CleanGrid provides planning and operational analytics software to electricity distribution network operators. The platform maintains a continuously updated model of network headroom — how much additional generation or demand each part of the network can actually accommodate, hour by hour, given real load patterns rather than worst-case design assumptions — and uses it to assess connection applications, prioritise reinforcement spend and identify where flexibility can defer capital works.

Market and customers

Distribution operators are processing connection queues far beyond anything their planning processes were designed for, while operating under a regulatory framework that rewards them for avoiding unnecessary reinforcement. Both pressures push in the same direction: they need a better answer to "can this connect here, and when" than a static study can give. Our customers are network licensees in the UK and Ireland, buying enterprise licences with multi-year terms. The buying centre is network planning, with the regulatory affairs function as a strong internal advocate.

Traction

Four network operators use the platform, covering approximately 40% of UK distribution-connected customers. Annual recurring revenue is £2.6M with 100% renewal to date and expansion revenue from additional modules. At our largest customer, connection assessment turnaround fell from an average of 43 days to 11, and the operator has publicly attributed a deferred reinforcement scheme worth £4M to analysis performed on the platform. Gross margin is 79%.

Team and investors

The company was founded from the University of Glasgow's power systems group and employs 41 people, including a delivery team of power engineers who work alongside customer planners during onboarding — an approach that is expensive but has proved decisive in winning renewals. Investors include a European energy transition fund and the university's investment arm.

Current raise

We are raising £4M in a Series A to enter the North American market, where a comparable regulatory driver is emerging, and to extend the platform from planning into real-time operational decision support.
